DPF 2004
(August 26-31, 2004) |
There will be an upcoming YPP event taking place at this year's DPF meeting in Riverside, California. The Division of Particles and Fields has been gracious to sponsor a YPP luncheon at this year's meeting. In conjunction with the luncheon, we have scheduled two speakers to address the audience: Jim Brau of the University of Oregon, who will discuss the latest developments on the Linear Collider and Neil Calder of SLAC, who will discuss outreach and communication. We hope this will be of interest to those who are able to attend the conference.

31st Annual SLAC Summer Institute (July 28 - August 8, 2003) |
We would like to announce the 31st annual SLAC Summer Institute. This year's institute will be on `Cosmic Connections to Particle Physics' and will take place 28 July - 8 August. The program and registration are available at http://www-conf.slac.stanford.edu/ssi/2003/Default.htm The physics of the very large and the very small share deep connections. A revolution in experimental cosmology has changed our picture of the universe in the last decade and is sharpening important questions in particle physics. This year's Summer Institute presents an excellent opportunity for young (as well as older) physicists to deepen their understanding of the universe and its relation to particle physics. The lecture series will explore such connections in a manner which is accessible to an audience with a particle physics background. We hope to see you at SSI2003!

LEPTON/PHOTON 2003 (August 11-16, 2003) at Fermilab YPP contact: Ben Kilminster |
This year, Lepton Photon 2003 will include a poster session. This is a special program to encourage the participation of younger physicists. Funding is available to allow us to waive the registration fee for most poster presenters. All poster presenters will be automatically considered for registration fee waivers, but poster applications must by submitted by the deadline of May 15, 2003. See: http://conferences.fnal.gov/lp2003/bulletins/index.html#poster for more details.
The Young Particle Physicists are planning to have a meeting associated with this conference, and the details are currently being worked out. Come back here for more information.

IEEE Nuclear Science Symposium NSS2003 (October 19-25, 2003) in Portland, Oregon YPP contact: Richard Jacobsson |
This year's IEEE Nuclear Science Symposium (NSS) and Medical Imaging (MIC) conference is being held October 19-25, 2003 in Portland, Oregon, USA. This conference features plenary and parallel sessions, workshops and educational courses on topics of interest to the particle physics (detector and instrumentation) community and to communities utilizing applications derived from that research. Traditionally, there has also been a large exhibition of corresponding industrial partners and major companies related to these fields. In recent years, a major workshop on Room Temperature Semiconductor X- and Gamma-ray Detectors (RTSD) has been added.
The IEEE NSS/MIC/RTSD typically attracts on the order of 1,000 participants and its this year's organzinging committee has decided to actively promote in particular also participation of young particle physicists/YPP's. The committee strongly encourages all YPP's who do interesting research in one of the conference topics to submit an abstract by May 16th (NSS abstract submission deadline). If accepted for presentation (there are poster and oral sessions for each conference topic), the YPP shall indicate in the following communication with the conference organizers if he or she would need support for participation.
The organizing committee is trying to increase the number of scholarships and financial support available and will do what is possible to enable participation - so that every scientist, and in particular also every YPP, who does good and interesting work and research in the topics covered by the conference will also be able to come to Portland and present his or her work there.
The conference organizers have also agreed that we can have a YPP InfoTable and a meeting room for a YPP Meeting/Event at the Portland IEEE conference.

APS/DPF 2003 (April 5-8, 2003) in Philadelphia, PA YPP contacts: George Fleming and Bonnie Fleming |
There are two YPP events currently scheduled for the APS/DPF April Meeting 2003, to be held in Philadelphia April 5-8, 2003.
We would like to call attention to the Special Session on the Future of Particle Physics that will also be held on April 7th, in the afternoon. See the website http://www.dpf2003.org/ for details.
Finally, we have had some requests to help coordinate grad students who are interested in sharing rooms to cut costs. If this interests you, you can also email George Fleming (flemingg@jlab.org).
For more information on these activities, please email either George Fleming or Bonnie Fleming
If you'll be attending an upcoming conference listed above, we encourage
you to contact the YPP conference contact listed above so they can email
you about any changes or additions to the activities listed.
If you are attending an upcoming conference not listed above but would like
to be listed as a contact for that conference to organize a YPP gathering
there, however informal, please email Sam
Zeller so that your name can be posted to this page as a contact.
